If you have ever had a massage, you know how it is to get one therapist and than another that just sucks, or uses a different method than you would like. I know this very well because I enjoy a really deep tissue/trigger point massage, and when I get a light-handed, wimpy therapist I am just very dissapointed.

Well the same goes with chiropractors and chiropractic techniques. There are many chiropractic techniques out there, and it behooves you to understand, at least in general, what they are and which ones work for you.

There are about 3 different styles right now. The first is traditional, which focuses on contact pressure, impact and so on to achieve the result. I prefer this for my neck, but the spine is more delicate and I don't like being slammed into. The 2nd style is more liberal, and relies on body positioning, torque and other methods that use the body's own leverage to fix the problem. The 3rd is network care, which deals more with energy and building awareness so you can crack your own back and neck, etc.

So in the end understand that there are many chiropractic techniques, and that you need to know what is good for you. Also, a chiropractor can have a mix of chiropractic techniques that can define their own style, so pay attention to how they treat certain issues versus others.
