90% of the time any truly competent deep tissue massage will address issues Chiropractic can not begin to. There are extremely clear reasons for this. The bones simply do not stay aligned when done with a quick adjustment. When you get the tension out of the surrounding tissue however, the bones align substantially more deeply & stay in place substantially longer. End of story. A small % of Chiropractors are truly expert in upper cervical  adjustment (neck area, the most critical) & combine their practice with a variety of holistic techniques (anything from rieki or similar healing modalities to proscribing Homeopathic type remedies). These are the only ones that potentially offer a meaningful alternative. I generally recommend any competent Shiatsu therapist as being substantially better than the vast majority of Chiropractors. If you can find one with advanced training in the Masunaga school (rare) you've really struck gold (just don't imply to anyone that their training is inferior). If you're looking for a radically fast solution & can handle pain than Rolfing works superlatively. But I usually recommend achieving the same results more slowly by going with deep tissue massage. To find a good one, generally look for someone with lots of experience who is obviously dedicated & sincere. Ones that specialize in sports injuries & take the most "scientific" or "objective" approach are usually mediocre (but often better than many chiropractors). Go to (or phone) as many health food stores as you can & ask if they can recommend anyone. If they have a local news magazine listing listing Holistic services that's a good start too. Just remember that newspaper ads & storefronts using the word Shiatsu may be rub & tug establishments.
